As summer gradually fades, autumn paints Val Pusteria in warm, vibrant hues. The Dolomites glisten golden under the sun, the air grows crisper, and the days are pleasantly mild. Trails and bike paths are now yours to explore at a relaxed pace, revealing hidden corners often overlooked during the busy high season.
In this quieter time, the mountains and panoramic views are shared mainly with locals and fellow nature lovers. And when you return to the Orso Grigio, a serene atmosphere, soothing saunas, and delicious homemade treats with warming drinks await—the perfect way to end an autumn day in complete relaxation.
Autumn in the Dolomites is a season of crisp mountain air and golden light, perfect for being active outdoors. Trails are quieter than in summer, and bike paths wind through vibrant forests and sunlit valleys. Many mountain huts may be closed, but that is exactly what makes this season so special: you can enjoy the mountains in peace, with quiet and almost complete solitude.
At the Orso Grigio, we provide personalized advice for your excursions, up-to-date information on weather and trail conditions, and detailed maps to help you make the most of your autumn adventures.
Leave it all to us!
If any mountain huts are closed, we’ll make sure you’re well supplied with packed provisions for your excursion. The Orso Grigio Boutique & Gourmet Hotel will provide you with everything you need to fuel yourself on the trail: sandwiches, fruit, water, juice or beer, something sweet – energy bites to keep you going throughout the day.
Upon your return, enjoy tea, coffee, and fresh fruit juices, as well as delicious pastries and homemade desserts. Then, let the rooftop spa envelop you in soothing warmth, the perfect way to end your day in complete relaxation.
Bustling activity in the village!
San Candido is alive even in the off-season. Its roughly 3,000 inhabitants are out and about in the village even during the low season – shopping, sipping coffee and dining. Tables on our terrace-café overlook the pedestrian walkway and provide a charming view of the activity below. And our cozy throw blankets will keep you warm on chilly days.
Architecture and Eras – San Candido in Autumn
Nestled at the crossroads of ancient trade routes, San Candido quickly grew in importance, with residents eager to leave a lasting mark on time. Two remarkable churches still define the town today: the Romanesque Collegiate Church, consecrated in 1284, with its clear, austere lines and timeless perfection, and the Baroque Parish Church of St. Michael. Together, they tell a story of deep faith, craftsmanship, and an era when stone spoke a language of the spirit.
